Sankranti Fun
The Fun at Sankranti 5K was ultimate, people inspite of complaining the winter cold took the opportunity to enjoy the festive run which showed their enthusiasm to run and participate. The cold winter weather made people complain and there were some odd requests to have a late run. RunWalkIndia organizers saw the slowest registration pace for this event initially and when the organizers stuck to their schedule, people never wanting to miss the fun joined in to register themselves by the last hour and caused to a late start of the event by about 30 min.
RunWalkIndia inspired and witnessed about 130 runners participate in the Sankranti 5K. There were more than 60% first time runners who enjoyed the run forgetting the chill weather. The Start point was more than warm as the rushing runners aged from about 4 to 75 years waited for their run start and went on to finish their 5K comfortably. Only a few anxious moments were seen when the little kids rushed off their start more in a dash as if they were doing their 100m dash run and few kids tumbled down the start path, they were brave enough to get on their feet soon and get into the run.
By the time the experienced runners started their run by about 7.40am the sun too willing to join the fun cleared the fog shining bright to give the runners a challenge.
All were happy and smiling, even after the running feet gave those moments of pain in their legs. People were keen to share about their run and make suggestive comments. Also many were to volunteer to give their contacts to help us for the next events.
Painting Event - About 65 children aged from 4 to 19 shared their colorful creativity to express the “Sankranti Fun” and create meaningful and proud art pieces to boast about their joy in sharing the Sankranti fun. The Judges had a tough time to decide the prized contribution. Most of them were put on display in the evening at the JP Park Main Gate for the public to see what they missed to contribute and enjoy and for the participants to make them proud of themselves.

Happy New Year
RunWalkIndia and team wishes all a very happy New Year 2009.
Looking back, we enjoyed running through 2008 with a new zeal and RunWalkIndia has been successful to some extent in inspiring people to get into the habit of running. Lately the monthly run events haven’t been possible but look forward to run with regular, casual, pro’s and new runners in the coming year/months/days. Wish to run more, further than the 5K and 10Ks and lets all hope to see a RunWalkIndia marathon soon :-)
Please look forward to the announcement of the next 5K run series and join to celebrate the harvest festive season run or the Colorful-Sankranti 5K RUN.
Once again wishing all runners a happy running year ahead….. :-)

“Om Ganesh 5K Run” Sep 21st 2008
“Om Ganesh 5K Run” scheduled on Sep 21st 2008 at the Jayaprakash Narayan Park in Mathikere, Bangalore saw people from various parts of Bangalore. The call for the run participation in news papers Deccan Chronicle-Bengaluru, Bangalore Mirror, Deccan Herald and for the first time in a prestigious kannada newspaper Prajavani brought in enthusiast runners from various parts of Bangalore to the event. RunWalkIndia acknowledges and thanks all for their support. Special thanks to Bangalore Beats.com and Runnersforlife. And many thanks to all the volunteers who are constantly supporting RunWalkIndia all along the path to successful events.
About 75 Runners participated and 60 crossed the finish line comfortably. The youngest participant being 3 years and oldest being 63 years. There were these two special couple one pair who are enjoying their retired life and another pair who wanted to run for inspiring their children. Special congrats to both these couple.
There was also healthy competition between the runners and it saw the best timings of all our 8 events. A student ran to complete the race in 14.1 minutes topped and the runner-up in tail to him completed in about 40 sec late. How I wished we had the RFID system to register all the timings and give them all a comparision of each lap timings.
Runners shared their views, many collected the couch to 5K and gave in their opinions about the event. Many were happy to meet people an d exchange in between them and were thanking us to provide this platform. The event topper too was overwhelmed at his own performance and was happy that this event happened and it was possible for him to look further.
It is quite satisfactory that we have been able to inspire many people to get into the running activity but still the mass awareness expected is yet to come.
