For a first-time race organizer

Based on TS's advice, I googled "Organizing a race" and came up with some useful stuff.

(a) Dave Mabe's blog entries about organizing a Pumpkin Run: Dave Mabe's wife - Joan Nesbit Mabe - is a Track & Field Olympian, and Dave is - among other things - the author of a book on Blackberry Hacks. In these blog entries, Dave chronicles his experience of organizing a local road race called the Pumpkin Race after taking the responsibility over from his wife.

The entries contain in-depth details about the various aspects of organizing a race. I was impressed by the extensive usage of Google tools in the organization of the race!

(b) A brief to-do list in organizing a road race

(c) A forum discussion on how to organize a Bike Race - useful for a road race as well

(d) Organizing a Road race for Charity - Very informative article

(e) Runners World Customer Service page with answer to the question "I am organizing my first race. Any tips?". I will call Road Runner's Club of America (410-290-3890) on Monday to get their handbook about directing a race.

(f) A study on the impact of a 5K race on raising awareness about Colon Cancer

Quite a few resources on the Web to assist in our adventure!
