Objectives of the race event on Apr 13th

Main objective of the race event on Apr 13th:

  • To provide an opportunity to participate in a fitness oriented event to the people living in and around JP Park

  • To ensure everyone involved has fun!

Corollary objectives of the race event on Apr 13th:

  • Educate everyone about the benefits of running; providing advice on best ways to exercise and run.

  • Encourage the development of a running community based in JP Park.

  • Build a core team for RunWalkIndia which will have the necessary experience and knowledge to organize further events, as well as facilitate others in organizing events all over the country.

With the above objectives in mind, I have the following objection to advertising about this race in the newspapers or newspaper inserts.

The event should encourage community building by fueling and encouraging the interest in fitness - specifically with running and walking. We are not trying to fool anyone into go running and participate in this event. We are not forcing anyone to participate in this event. We want to give an opportunity for people who have an interest in increasing their fitness to participate in this event.

The best way to get participants and spectators to know and to get involved in this event is through word-of-mouth advertising. People should sign up for the event, and adopt this event as their own to make it a success.

In my view, if there is a need for putting newspaper inserts three days before the event, then the event is a failure!

So everyone: Please inform as many people as you can about this event. Send emails to them. Send SMS messages to them. Talk with them about it.

Talk about it with your neighbor, your barber, the bus conductor, the vegetable vendor, the police constable, the grocery shop owner, the regular runners / joggers / walkers in JP Park, the local politicians, the doctors and the nurses in the Sumathi Nursing home and other hospitals, your parents & family members, your school mates…..

In short, Inform EVERYONE about the race!
